Military Service
Marty Foncello proudly served as an Army Officer for 28 years, retiring in 2002 as a Lieutenant Colonel. His distinguished military career spanned three wartime eras: Vietnam, the First Gulf War, and the War on Terror. He served in all three components of the Army: Active, Reserve, and National Guard.
As a Military Intelligence (MI) Officer, Marty held several key positions. He was the Deputy G-2 of a National Guard Infantry Division, Commander of a Reserve MI Battalion, which he established, and Executive Officer of a Reserve MI Detachment affiliated with Yale University.
Civilian Career
Alongside his military service, Marty made significant contributions in civilian life. He taught Statistics and Business Decision Making as an adjunct faculty member at multiple local universities, including Western Connecticut State University. Marty also founded and served as President of the Greenridge Tax District and Water Company, which provided water to 270 homes in Brookfield and Newtown. Additionally, he was a member of Brookfield’s Economic Development Commission.
Public Service
In 1999, Marty was elected First Selectman of Brookfield and served two terms. During his tenure, he was called to active duty following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and served in Washington, DC.
After his time as First Selectman, Marty became a Senior Intelligence Officer with the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Intelligence and Analysis. For over 14 years, he worked in New York City as a liaison to the NYPD, FDNY, and Office of Emergency Management, collaborating closely with the private sector, Intelligence Community, and DHS component agencies in NYC.

Marty has been deeply involved in his community. He has served as a Little League coach, Scout Leader, and member of the Brookfield Rotary Club, where he was President for one year. Currently, he is a member of the Knights of Columbus, holding a 4th-degree rank, and a member of American Legion Post 202 in Newtown.
